About Access Community Housing

Access Community Housing Company Ltd (ACHC) was established in 1991 and is a registered not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. We are a registered community housing provider organisation, under the National Regulatory System.

ACHC receives funding through the Department of Housing and Public Works (DHPW) under the Housing Act 2003. We are overseen by a skills-based volunteer Board of Directors and capably lead by a professional leadership team of five individuals, with a total of 20 permanent staff and a number of casual employees.

2016 marks the 25th year of operation for Access Community Housing Company (ACHC) and over this time it has established a reputation for providing responsive housing solutions for people seeking community housing. As a Tier 2 provider under the National Regulatory System, ACHC has a portfolio of approximately 570 properties, from Mossman to Babinda. ACHC is a not-for-profit organisation working closely with support services to assist individuals and families, who are on the Department of Housing and Public Works Register of Need, to find appropriate housing.
ACHC works in partnership with support agencies, government departments, real estate agents and investors to create positive housing outcomes for our clients and tenants.

ACHC provides affordable accommodation to families, individuals and seniors (aged over 55) who are already on the DHPW register of need. We are passionate about our role in the community and fulfilling the service obligations and Client Service Charter of our company.

ACHC currently oversees over 1,100 tenants in 570 properties across Cairns and Far North Queensland, from Port Douglas to Babinda. We have four fundamental values that drive us in our pursuit of professional and community fulfilment.

ACHC work tirelessly to increase the supply of potential housing for our new and existing clients. This is achieved by working with landlords, community leaders, peer organisations and government agencies.

The ACHC head office is based in Cairns but we liaise with internal and external clients and stakeholders across the Far North Queensland region.
